Today I got a very pleasant, dare I say sincere-sounding rejection call from a job I interviewed for over a month ago. The fact that they bothered to call me makes me more apt to believe they really did have a hard time deciding. On the one hand, I'm getting a little weary of all the rejection. On the other hand, I suppose it's nice to hear that I am not completely without merit, professionally speaking? I was starting to wonder, ngl.

Anyway, I'm still not looking, but egret alerted me to an open position via Twitter that I will probably apply for. Chances are they won't even call, considering it's in NYC and it's a high-profile institute, but I have the experience for sure, so what the hell. Worse comes to worse, they won't call. And the best-case scenario is that I will have to scrape up the cash to move to New York after all, which I definitely would not complain about. So we'll see.

Of course there are five houses in my neighborhood for sale -- well, four; one was pulled off the market -- and none are selling, so it's not a great time to be trying to move anyway. You'd think that would be exactly the time I'd get offered a job, but I'm not really counting on fate these days.

That is kind of nice they bothered to call you even if you didn't get the job. The worst is the waiting and never hearing anything. It gets disheartening.

And longshot or not, I still wish you luck with this newest application!

She left a very nice voicemail; it was sweet of her. So yes, it did make me feel better, even though I'd written that job off weeks ago. (It also made me a little teary, but that's probably just hormones.)

I am exactly what the NYC job is looking for. Like, EXACTLY. I submitted my resume and what I hope is a convincing cover letter this morning. It closes on the 26th, so we'll see.

There is a middle-case scenario where you do not get the NY job but are brought up for a f2f interview, which is a tax-deductible trip to NY (job search expenses are deductible). But it would be awesome if you got it.

Both those scenarios are ones I could live with! I would not turn down an excuse to visit the city, that's for sure. Thanks again for passing the listing along. I hadn't seen it posted anywhere (though I haven't been looking) so I would have missed it without you.

When I interview I always send rejection letters to anyone I speak to in person. It's not county-sanctioned and I'd probably get in trouble if they found out because it hasn't been 'approved', but it's the right thing to do so I don't care.
