Yuletide Round-Up Post

For posterity, here’s what i wrote for Yuletide. Seven fics in total in seven different fandoms. (I wish every single one of them was better, but that’s life, I suppose.)

The Color and the Noise, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, Taylor/Doug, NC17. If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with.

The Stubborn Witness Of the Everyday, Big Eden, Pike/Henry, NC17. Henry’s not known for his portraits.

I’ll Be the One, But I’m a Cheerleader, Megan/Graham, PG. The road to happily ever after, with a few new firsts along the way.

Adnascentia, Creep, Aaron/Josef, R. Aaron's got a dozen different excuses for why he went to the park to meet Josef, but all they are is excuses.

Plan B, Ice Princess, Gen/Ann, PG. Gen walked away from her Plan A. Ann's Plan A just didn't work out, but Plan B's not always such a bad thing.

Playing Chess With Fate, Parks and Recreation, Sonia Knope-Wyatt/Oliver Traeger-Perkins, PG. The thing about destiny is that it's inescapable. Even if it means admitting your mom might have been right all along.

And Your Moonlight Too, Veritas: The Quest, Solomon/Vincent, PG. Above all, always come up with a believable cover story.

So I wrote Veritas fic for Yuletide! It was not the pairing I normally write, nor the story I really wanted to tell, but I’m not unhappy with it. I just wish I could have given my recipient something meatier, because I got such amazing gifts for Yuletide this year. I think this is the most writing I did in 2015, though, unless you count the 26k of unfinished Calvin/Nikko fic still languishing in my Google Docs.

I had another idea for the Vincent/Solomon fic that I tried to make work, but the logic just kept letting me down. I don't know if it was performance anxiety or what, because there is zero logic on Veritas the show, so why I was stressing about it I cannot say. It's possible I'll keep kicking the idea around until I get it to work, but I'm not supposed to be writing fan fiction so time will tell.

Anyway, I also picked up two pinch hits, and the other four were treats. The Big Eden fic started out as something much bigger but the idea didn’t want to work with me in the time I had to write it, so maybe I’ll revisit that idea later on.

The two stories that were probably furthest outside my wheelhouse were for Creep and Behind the Mask. I enjoy horror, as everyone who knows me knows, but I don’t write a lot of horror, at least when it comes to fan fiction. Still, it was fun, and now I can’t stop thinking about what it would have been like if Aaron really *had* lived at the end of Creep and he and Josef became murder husbands.

I'm kind of obsessed, honestly. I have a lot of ideas and nowhere to put them, because nobody's even seen that stupid movie. So they're just rattling around my head, weird, codependent murder husbands with this long, creepy fic series filled with inappropriate kinky porn and kidnappings, and I'm not going to do anything with it, but I'm probably going to think about it for a long time.

ANYWAY.

Writing Parks & Rec future fic was kind of a treat. It was a late pinch hit, so I didn’t have as much time to explore Sonia and Oliver’s relationship as I might have wanted to, but it was a lot of fun to write, so I’m glad I got the opportunity.

The two femslash treats I wrote were SUPER fluffy, but honestly that's what I love in my femslash, so it was a little self-indulgent. Luckily self-indulgent fluff is what my recipients seemed to want, so it worked out. I enjoyed writing both of them an awful lot, at any rate, so I'm glad other people enjoyed them too.

And the gifts I got, which I bragged about on tumblr but forgot to crosspost here:

The Bridge Of Souls by Damkianna. Veritas: The Quest, Calvin/Nikko, PG. "Yeah, yeah, yeah," Nikko said, interrupting. "Don't go off alone, don't fall in any pits, don't touch anything that looks like it could kill you, don't touch anything that doesn't look like it could kill you because it probably could anyway." Post-finale trope bingo: Nikko and Cal get kidnapped, huddle for warmth, form a soulbond, and discover they're sort of into each other and also can maybe save the world.

Textual Poaching by Eisoj5. Redshirts, Andy/Jimmy, PG. "You think Andy is the main character," Jenkins said.

Both are loaded with all my favorite tropes, perfectly in character, clever, and best of all, long. If you haven't read them yet, give them a try. You won't be sorry.
