Oh man. I hope you were getting compensated in some way for more than 24 hours of babysitting. Cookies at the very least. Hell is other people's children after a certain point.
I know you're in a writing group, but I'm fuzzy on the details (probably because I was AWOL most of this year). It must be nice to have other people to write with, though. Even if they are weird. I'd been toying with the idea of finding a writing group around here, but I'm still not sure.
