Picture it: I'm walking to work this morning behind* one of my coworkers. He is wearing a baseball cap, a short-sleeve chambray button-down, and a pair of bright green hipster Dockers. In short, he looks ridiculous.

As I'm walking down the sidewalk after him, I notice a very beat-up van driving by, windows down. The driver and passenger are watching my hipster coworker and laughing (understandably) at his ridiculous pants. The driver happens to be a man with a long side braid, wearing unironic overalls.

I'm sure I'm not doing the picture justice, but maybe it will help if you picture me following behind the scene, grinning to myself like a crazy person.

Only in Knoxville.

It's taken me six years to move into this town, but I think I'm finally here.

* Of course he did not stop to wait for me. He didn't even say good morning**, because it is a requirement that in order to work here, you have to be socially awkward to the point of rudeness. I'm still not sure how I got hired.

** Also we made out once*** like three (four?) years ago. But it's been ages! He totally needs to get over that. He's married now, ffs. Also I'm pretty sure he cured me of men altogether, so frankly I am grateful.

*** Believe me, no one is more ashamed that I made out with a hipster than I am.

This is only library-adjacent, but it's still a Thing Which Happened. )

New goal: Move to NYC before October so I can go to Comic Con in the super cute costume I am planning. It could happen!

There's someone sleeping in the stacks right above my office. There's an open balcony so I can hear them snoring. I should go wake them up, but I just don't care enough to walk up the stairs. Though if I set off the alarm on the back door it would scare the hell out of them, and that would be funny.

Today is my dad's birthday, and as has become a sort-of annual tradition around here, that means I post Beach Boys Christmas songs. (It's a finite resource; I'll run out eventually.) Today's tracks are from the Ultimate Christmas album:

Child Of Winter (Christmas Song)
Morning Christmas

I may have mentioned before that my dad loves the Beach Boys, hence the sort-of-annual tradition. Have I ever mentioned the part where my mom got to name my older sister, so when his turn to pick the name came up, he named me after a Beach Boys song? No one's ever heard it, which is sort of the best part. It's a terrible song! But their Christmas music isn't.

Today I am meeting Anna Leah and her husband for breakfast and then going to see a reading of holiday classics performed by a local theater group, which includes one of our coworkers. Then I am going to work out and maybe clean up this joint a little, and after that I am going to hang out on the couch and try to write something and hope we really do get that storm that's supposed to roll through tomorrow and they have to close the library on Monday.

Allegedly I have a lunch date on Monday. I would rather have the snow day.

(A little while ago Bess walked into my office and said, "I read that Will/Finn story you posted. Afterward I needed a beer and some M&Ms." I think that's possibly the best feedback I've ever gotten on a fic. And from a coworker, no less! It's not hard to make her blush or anything, but sometimes it's kind of fun.)

For a little while now I have been working on a Puck/Kurt-centric fanmix -- working title: Wedding Mix (spoiler alert: THEY GET MARRIED AT THE END) -- and there was this one song that I loved, but it just wasn't working for them. Then it dawned on me that it was actually a Will/Finn song, which launched a new Will-centric fanmix. I haven't given Will much of a voice in this series to date, mainly because while Will's a part of the relationship, certainly, up to now it's mostly been about Finn's journey of growth and discovering what he wants. (Puck calls it 'becoming a real boy'.)

So now Finn's figuring it out, and he knows what he wants, which is Will. The trouble, of course, is getting Will to believe that. So I suppose going forward that Will will have more of a voice in the series, and as a way of easing into that I started thinking about kind of a soundtrack for the two of them. The first fanmix* I made for the 99 Problems series was completely Finn-centric, and while this one isn't All About Will, it definitely focuses on him more.

Uh, vague spoilers for the future of the 99 Problems series, I guess? I mean, it's not like you can't guess where we're going with this thing, but if you really don't want to be spoiled, you should skip the notes after each track** and just download the zip file.

Back to the Start: A Will/Finn Mix. )

* None of those links are good anymore, so if you need the zip file let me know and I'll upload it again.
** Whatever, everybody knows fanmixes are just an excuse for posting cheesy covers anyway. I mean, come on, look at his Drama Face. How am I supposed to resist that? Though this is actually what I was listening to while I wrote that story that made Bess blush, so it must be doing the trick.
