PS: I am planning to be in the NYC area during the weekend of August 9-10, 2014. Hopefully my NYC people will be around for drinking/food/catching up then.

So I may have mentioned something about a little trip I took this past week to New York City by way of Ohio? And I may have done more than my share of drunk posting? Who can say. But I'm back in Knoxville now, and I'm done feeling sorry for myself about it and ready to tell you all about the trip.

New York in pictures, now with added cut tag action. )

So that's our trip in a nutshell. It was really fantastic and I'm not at all happy to be home. The only thing I'm looking forward to now is the premiere of SYTYCD, and there's not going to be any Jess, so even that's a mixed blessing.

Every time I go north I say I'm going to make a plan to get out of the south and move home. I always say it, but then life gets in the way and I fall back on bad habits and like 90 Glee fics happen. I swear I'm not going to do that this time. I've got a plan and I'm sticking to it, by God. I just need to be back among my people. Whenever I go north I remember just how true that is.

+ GUYS I LEAVE FOR NEW YORK TWO WEEKS FROM TOMORROW. That is crazy talk.

I have so much to do between now and then. It's freaking me out a little, but at the same time, I don't care, because I LEAVE FOR NEW YORK IN TWO WEEKS.

+ My head hurts and my throat's been sore since yesterday. There's a terrible cold going around at work. Also my nephew has scarlet fever. I am surrounded by disease! But I refuse to get sick, because I am going to New York in two weeks, as I may have mentioned, and I still have way too much to do.

+ 'Too much to do' includes a bunch of sewing projects, organizing a baby shower, mowing the lawn, and getting someone to do something with my tragic hair. The baby shower is mostly sorted, at least, thanks largely to my sister, who is good at that sort of thing, whereas I am mostly not.

+ Notice none of my to do list has anything to do with my job. I just don't even care at this point.

+ Also on the 'do not care' list: [community profile] au_bigbang. I'm thinking about dropping out*. I'm just not feeling fandom at the moment, I guess. Perhaps vacationing with fangirls will renew my fervor, but I'm not holding my breath.

+ Have I mentioned that I will be in New York City in two weeks? Last call to come hang out! Basically we are planning to spend Sunday drunk. I'm pretty excited**.

* No one will miss me anyway! I say that all the time 'cause it's true. It's an important lesson to learn in life, I think.
** Mostly at this point I'm just excited to not be at work, but whatev. I'll figure out what to do about that when I get back.

SO. EXCITED. 'The Fansies'. Oh, Jess, you ridiculous creature. To me you will always be Puck and Kurt's Broadway lovechild. IJS. (Also, I love how excited they get about the fire escape. And I love Evan. And Alex Freaking Wong. And basically everything this video chooses to be.)

In marginally related news, we get Dance Magazine here at the library, and Mark from SYTYCD is on the cover of last month's issue. There's an article talking about how participating in the show has brought him mixed success (though he appears to be doing well, which is great, because he's so talented. You non-SYTYCD fans saw him in the background of the Brittany numbers during the Brittany episode of Glee.) Anyway, in light of that, it's nice to see four SYTYCD alums having success in Newsies.

In less than six weeks I will be hitting the road to meet up with [personal profile] jengeorge and [personal profile] wonderlandchick, and then we will be embarking on a fabulous weekend in NYC. I can't wait to see NEWSIES ON BROADWAY, BITCHES and also to see [personal profile] yabamena and [personal profile] mysticshell! And possibly [personal profile] egret? Egret, I know you're not going to the show with us, but if you were free on Saturday, May 12th and wanted to meet us for dinner, I personally would love to see you.

Speaking of dinner, do any of you local ladies have restaurant suggestions? I have a few well-rated (according to Yelp, anyway) places in mind in Hell's Kitchen, but the three of us tourists are down with traveling to meet wherever if you don't want to dine right in Tourist Central (and who could blame you, really.)

Also on the agenda is a drag brunch at Lips NYC. We're going on Sunday the 14th, which is Mother's Day, so I realize a lot of people are booked that day, but anyone local who wants to join us for that should let me know. Though you need to let me know in the next couple days, because I need to start making reservations for stuff.

We will be in the city from Friday at dinnertime through Monday morning, so if you are dying to see any of us in person and you can make it into the city, let me know. I have pretty much planned our agenda for every minute of the trip, but we can still fit you in! Sunday afternoon we're mostly going to be drinking anyway. What? That's what everybody does with their Sunday afternoons, isn't it?

Guys I am super excited. Have I mentioned how I'm very, very excited?

My entire department has called in sick two days in a row. On timesheet week, of course. I've decided to take it personally and blow off work* to spend the day planning even more obsessively for my New York trip. Which doesn't happen until May. Shut up.

This morning I discovered, completely by accident, that when we go to New York to see Newsies on Broadway, we will be seeing not only Evan and Alex from SYTYCD, but Jess. That's right, Jess LeProtto, aka He About Whom I Have Written Inappropriate RPS, will be there. OMG SO EXCITE. Just when I thought this trip couldn't get any better!

Do you know what I've been enjoying lately? Ink Master. Who in their right mind would take a chance at getting a bad tattoo, even if it's free? You kind of deserve it at that point. It's such a fun show, though. And it really makes me want to get my next one RIGHT NOW. Except that I'm kind of cash poor at the moment because I have to pay off Newsies tickets, so I can't.

Also enjoyable: Face Off**. I know I watch too much reality TV. But I love it, so I don't care.

* Not really. Those two idiots left me with a ton of stuff that has to get done today.
** The best part of Face Off is that it's hosted by Sheridan from Passions. Fannish full circle!

Someone talk me out of buying a new shoulder bag for my trip to New York. Even though I don't really have a good overnight bag. I have one, but the straps are super uncomfortable, and that's a perfectly valid reason to buy a new bag, right? I was considering an L.L. Bean Boat and Tote bag, because they're classic and durable and I'm a New England girl at heart. My problem with them is the lack of organization inside. (No pockets.)

I have basically wasted my entire afternoon trawling ebags and Modcloth and a ton of other sites looking for the perfect bag, then talking myself out of spending the money. This one's my favorite, even though it's completely useless as an overnight bag.

All in all, not the best use of a Sunday afternoon! I should probably just make a bag. Except I never get around to making any of my sewing projects, so that's not going to happen. I did find a pattern for making purse skirts for my Thirty-One purse, though, and considering how much I hate most of their fabrics, that's a project I do want to master. As soon as I finish the jacket I started cutting out today and then wandered away from. ::sigh:: I am useless when it comes to follow-through.

Still, New York! I don't care if I have to carry my stuff in a garbage bag. Though they really will turf me out of the fancy hotel if I show up like that.

Last night my sister and I went to see the touring company of Les Miserables. She bought the tickets for my birthday, and I had a gift card for the popular sushi bar in town (also a birthday gift) so we had sushi and really good French wine and then I sobbed through the entire show. As per usual. I think my sister thought I was having some kind of breakdown, but the truth is I always start crying at the overture and pretty much don't stop until the end.

I have a bunch of e-mails to send and also a couple messages on OkCupid to answer. Instead I'm probably going to look at more bags.

I really love that bag. I'm not going to buy it. But I really love it.
