Musical Advent Calendar: Day One
Dec. 1st, 2010 08:12 amIt's December 1st, and that means it's time for the 6th Annual Musical Advent Calendar. Six years, you guys. That's crazy talk.
If you're just joining us this year, the musical advent calendar is a countdown to that most joyous of days, December 25th, when Yuletide stories are revealed and also I hear people get presents and there was some baby or something, IDK. So for the next 24 days, I will be posting a song (sometimes more) to help us count down to the big day.
They are mostly Christmas songs, and I try to deliver non-traditional stuff or covers you may not have heard, just so it doesn't sound like the mall in here. I don't always succeed, I'm sure. It's Christmas music; variety is not usually the recording industry's priority.
That said, since December 1st also happens to be the first day of Hanukkah this year, let's start out with a new recording of a Hanukkah song by Pink Martini. It's not that easy to find new Hanukkah music, as I'm sure you know, but this one's a fun one:
Pink Martini -- Ocho Kandlelikas (Eight Little Candles)
It's snowing, WTF. And I am still waiting for the plumber, which means I'm not at work so I can stay at home and enjoy the snow without having to go out in it. Not the way I'd choose to burn through my vacation time, normally, but I woke up feeling poorly this morning, so I took the out and called in. Maybe I'll go in this afternoon. It all depends on the plumbing situation.
Happy Hanukkah, if you celebrate! Noah Puckerman approves.
