I realize I post here eleventy billion times a day lately, but mostly it feels like I'm not posting at all, because generally all I post is fic. I don't talk about much of anything lately, is what I'm saying. Not that there's much to talk about, since most of my free time lately is spent -- you guessed it -- obsessively writing fic.

I just finished a Finn-centric piece that I kind of want to draw hearts around. I will post that just as soon as I finish typo-hunting. Or maybe after I finish writing the next part. I realize I am being kind of weird about this series. I can't seem to help myself.

RL news: Today is my open house, which starts in two hours, which means I have to vacate the premises here shortly. I have baked cookies for the occasion, and in between writing fic* I have cleaned my already fairly clean house, seeing as I did a full cleaning just this past Wednesday evening.

So that's what's going on with me. Oh! Last night I fixed my hair, which my former hairdresser tried to destroy on Friday. I am once again back to my usual dark brown and I feel MUCH better. I was going to try to live with the color for awhile, but when I got up and looked in the mirror yesterday morning I wanted to cry, so I decided to use a semi-permanent non-ammonia dye and cover the awfulness without further damaging** my hair. It looks so much better, you guys.

Nano is almost upon us! I am obsessively trying to finish writing everything that's rattling around in my head so I will have a clean slate to focus on my novel*** during November.

Speaking of fic writing, does anyone know if they're planning to run another [community profile] au_bigbang next year? Because I might have come up with a Kurt/Puck AU**** which I am kind of in love with, and I need an excuse to write it.

PS: I have had "Blue Skies" stuck in my head since yesterday, for what are likely obvious reasons. Problem: I don't seem to have this song on my computer anywhere! I probably have a couple versions on CD, but my hard copy music collection currently resides in my sister's garage. Anyone have a favorite version they would care to share?

* This is why I have so much time for fic-writing lately; my house is always clean because I'm not allowed to let it get dirty.
** I also did a homemade hot oil treatment and a bunch of deep conditioning, which has helped my texture quite a bit.
*** Oh, stop laughing. I KNOW, okay?
**** At least my chances of being claimed would be better with that pairing, right? Right??

Title: Nothing But Blue Skies
Fandom: Glee
Pairing: Kurt/Puck, Will/Finn
Rating: PG13
Summary: Kurt's just trying to be reasonable. Unfortunately for him, love generally isn't all that reasonable. 6410 words.
Series: Down Is Where We Came From
A/N: Normally I would be all apologetic about how appallingly romantic this thing is, but someone I used to like very much said some pretty horrible things to me yesterday regarding gay marriage, and suddenly the appalling levels of romance don't seem nearly so embarrassing.

Title: Borrowed Time
Fandom: Glee
Pairing: Will/Finn
Rating: PG
Summary: There are lines Will doesn't cross. 1554 words.
Series: Down Is Where We Came From
A/N: A couple nights ago I was stuck on all my writing projects and frustrated about it. So I crawled into bed with my laptop and all of a sudden Will Schuester decided he had something to say. I wasn't even going to post it, because it's just a character study, but I think it helps to explain his motivations in this universe, so here it is.

Title: some kind of music
Fandom: Glee
Character(s)/Pairings: Quinn Fabray, Kurt/Puck, Will/Finn
Rating: PG
Summary: Six years is a long time. 1824 words.
Series: Down Is Where We Came From
A/N: See above re: Will, I guess. I didn't intend to introduce a bunch of new POVs at this point in the series, and I certainly don't intend to continue with them (I swear there is no Quinn spin-off series in the making!) but I thought her POV was important to explain some things I have always known while writing this series, but not really gotten across while Finn's the only one doing the talking.

Title: At Moments After
Fandom: Glee
Pairing: Kurt/Puck, Will/Finn
Rating: PG
Summary: In which there's car talk, discussion of the future, and Puck on his best behavior. Yet somehow, dinner at the Hummel household still doesn't go exactly as planned. 2797 words.
Series: Down Is Where We Came From
A/N: Like pulling off a Band-Aid, people. I promise I won't leave you hanging long.

Here's something I posted on the Kurt/Puck LJ comm yesterday and then forgot to mention here: Downloadable PDFs of the entire Glee series to date. If you want them for your eReader or whatever, I guess.

Actually I only did it because some people are still having trouble accessing AO3, so I said I'd put up PDFs from now on as well. AO3 makes it super easy to download fic in multiple formats, so it's not a chore, at least.

A lot of people have downloaded those files in less than 24 hours. Crazy.

Here is what is happening with my current writing projects:

+ Zeroes and Ones -- I think I have well and truly fucked myself with the 'plot' to the point where I have to toss a scene I wrote over a year ago, which was actually the crux of the entire climax. ...Oops? Not sure how to fix that one!

+ Glee series -- Currently I am working on a fic which will likely prove to be the least popular installment in the series to date (a title currently held by the one where Will and Finn talk about cars) because what you should do when you're writing a never-ending 'everybody's gay' series filled with ridiculous shenanigans and bordering on the absurd is introduce another POV nobody cares about. Definitely! (No more spin-offs. I promise it's just a one-off thing.)

+ Original fic -- One bright spot is that they're offering a ghost tour of the local theater that my ghost story original romance novel is based on Halloween weekend. So I'm going to go to that with some of the girls from work and it should be super-fun and also excellent research. They're playing Friday the 13th on the big screen beforehand, which is one of my favorite movies ever, not the least because it's baby!Kevin Bacon's big screen debut. Bless.

Title: Slow Dancing
Fandom: Glee
Pairing(s): Finn/Will, Kurt/Puck
Rating: mature (though that is pretty misleading; sorry)
Summary: Finn's mocked by his former best friend, inadvertently humiliated by a brother he's pretty sure doesn't even like him that much, and possibly asked out by the most clueless guy in Ohio. And he has an extra date for the Hummel/Hudson family dinner. All in all, it's not his best day. He's got 99 problems, dontcha know.
Series: Down Is Where We Came From
A/N: This is not the fic I intended to be writing today! But I started it, and it had been awhile since I actually wrote Finn/Will interaction, so this is sort of a gift to the handful of people who've been waiting patiently for them to speak to one another again.

( Most days that he helps out at the shop, Finn goes home afterwards to grab a quick snack and a shower before play rehearsal. )

Title: all the places we've never known
Fandom: Glee
Pairing: Kurt/Puck
Rating: NC17
Summary: In which Kurt and Puck take a stroll down memory lane, with mixed results. 8105 words.
Series: Down Is Where We Came From. If you're starting at the beginning, start at the bottom of page 2.
A/N: So if you think I have been avoiding writing this next part of the series for a week, you're not wrong. I've been doing pretty much everything but, mostly because there's a lot of actual physical movement in this section and that's not really my forte, but also because I was afraid of making it too cheesy*. So I procrastinated, but last night I buckled down, and this morning I worked on it some more, and now I'm done and I hope it's worth the wait. The next part won't take nearly so long, I promise.

( You can't be serious. )

* Never fear: [personal profile] writingpathways is under strict orders to shut me down the second this series gets too cheesy.
carolinecrane: (misc: jennifer's body (is lovely))
1) Happy birthday to [personal profile] boggit and [personal profile] starmack! You are both lovely and you deserve all good things, so I hope your days are wonderful. And that there's cake. I can't eat cake, so someone should.

2) It is Monday morning. Certain people called in sick on Thursday and Friday, and finally arrived this morning being surly and miserable and basically unwilling to do their fucking jobs. Here's a spoiler: I have no sympathy! Suck it up or go home, because I don't actually need you here.

3) My mom was in town this weekend, so we spent yesterday impulse shopping. She bought me a new coat, which was unnecessary, but I didn't tell her no because it's not like I could really afford it, and damn, I wanted that coat. So now it is mine, and it is gorgeous, and I am going to wear the hell out of it this winter. Here's a picture, if you're so inclined.

4) Writers Group was this weekend too. I read them some more of my gay romance, which got me kind of excited about it again, then I talked my mom's ear off about it for awhile yesterday, and now I'm thinking that instead of attempting Nano, which frankly I wasn't planning to do anyway, I should take a break from fan fiction in November and use Nano as the structure to work on my novel.

4a) Taking a break from fic for the entire month of November means I should probably get the Glee series at least through the Ohio trip before the end of the month. I have plans and while I am not feeling particularly motivated to write in that universe at the moment, I feel I probably should get things to a decent stopping point. Just to minimize distractions, you know. Of course, that means I have to figure out how to start the next part when my brain just really wants to jump ahead, and the timeline is kind of fucked and I'm not sure how to fix it etc. etc. nobody really cares. I reckon people just wish I'd write some more porn at this point.

5) I am back on my hardcore no sugar/no carbs diet. It's been about a week. So far, so good, though the scale reported a rather depressing number this morning. I'm trying not to obsess. At the very least I will keep my obsessing off my journal(s). For now, anyway.

Title: Intercalary Days
Fandom: Glee
Pairing: Kurt/Puck
Rating: PG13-ish?
Summary: In which Kurt continues to clean up Puck's messes and proves that he's a thoughtful gift-giver indeed.
Series: Down Is Where We Came From. If you're starting at the beginning, start at the bottom of page 2.

( Puck's out the front door as soon as Kurt pulls up to the curb in front of his mother's house. )
carolinecrane: (glee: partners in crime)
Title: like it like that
Fandom: Glee
Character(s): Finn, Kurt
Rating: PG
Summary: Finn has questions. Kurt seems like the likeliest candidate for answers.
A/N: So I was working on this other thing, but I kept coming back to this scene, so I figured I'd just jot it down in all its painfully awkward glory. Enjoy!
Series: Part of the Finn-centric spin-off, although they're so intertwined at this point it's hard to say. The entire thing is here, as always. Start at the bottom if you're starting from scratch.

( Finn's practicing his solo when the car door opens. )
carolinecrane: (glee: partners in crime)
So I have been immersed in this Glee universe for a little over a month now, and that means, of course, that I have been cultivating soundtracks for both the Puck/Kurt storyline, and the Finn-centric offshoot. I mentioned the Finn mix awhile back when I first started tossing around the Jay-Z references.

Well, I have finally reached a point where I feel both mixes are complete, so I will post them here, in case you're dying of curiosity about what I listen to while I write about those three idiots.*

A couple of the songs on the Kurt/Puck mix were chosen by [personal profile] cinderlily during some e-mail conversation, and a couple of them appear on her fanmix as well. Because we share a brain as well as this universe, and our musical tastes just overlap that way.

Bad graphics are all my fault, as usual. Links take you to Sendspace; if that's a problem, let me know.

* The irony, of course, is that tonight when I finished mowing the lawn I started working on something so completely different from this universe that I'm embarrassed to talk about it. Maybe later.
carolinecrane: (glee: partners in crime)
I have been productive in all the wrong ways this weekend. This Glee fic I just needed to get down so I could stop thinking about it. There's also a little CSI ficlet which I will link to on LJ. It was written in just a few minutes to fill a prompt on the Nick/Greg comm.

Title: On Call
Fandom: Glee
Pairing: Kurt/Puck
Rating: R
Summary: Puck can't sleep.
A/N: As always, it's part of the series which can be found here.

( Puck doesn't know how long he's been lying in his old room, staring at the ceiling and trying not to think about how empty his bed feels. )

~

And if you're in a CSI mood, there's an untitled ficlet here.

It was written to fill Silvia's prompt of "Nick and Greg are literally an old married couple". You know I'll never quit them completely, no matter how much I might want to sometimes.

Now I have to go be a grown-up and get some boring RL stuff done. I wonder if I can put off the grocery store and mowing the lawn until after work tomorrow.
carolinecrane: (glee: partners in crime)
Title: something about us
Fandom: Glee
Pairing: Kurt/Puck
Rating: PG
Summary: Kurt should know better than to leave Puck alone with his father. 2172 words.
A/N: For [personal profile] jengeorge, because I promised her more Kurt/Puck this weekend. Series is here.

( there's something about us I've got to do
some kind of secret I will share with you )
carolinecrane: (glee: partners in crime)
Title: Slow Ride
Fandom: Glee
Character(s): Finn Hudson, Will Schuester
Rating: PG
Summary: Car talk. 1899 words.
A/N: Yeah, I got nothing. More of the same; the rest is here.

( With apologies for the cheesy title. I got Foghat stuck in my head yesterday and it wouldn't let go. )
carolinecrane: (glee: partners in crime)
Two fics, because someone called in today, which meant I had the office all to myself. I did as little work as I could get away with and spent my day writing about Finn's identity crisis instead.

There's also Kurt/Puck fic, which I wrote last night and then slept on, since it went in a completely different direction than intended, and I wanted to make sure it wasn't the dumbest idea ever before I posted. (Still not convinced! Too late now.)

Title: Approximations
Rating: PG
Character(s): More aimless Finn fic, with increasingly overt one-sided Will/Finn.
Summary: The one thing Will Schuester taught him was how to appreciate a challenge.

Title: Arithmetic
Rating: PG
Pairing: Kurt/Puck
Summary: Puck does not get lucky on their first night home.

A/N: Yeah, I didn't plan for the titles to be all matchy. It just happened, okay? I'm pretty tired, cut me some slack.

Brittany(Britney)-flavored Glee tonight! I'm pretty excited, ngl. I hope there's wine at my sister's house.
carolinecrane: (glee: partners in crime)
Title: Comfort and Joy
Author: Caroline Crane
Pairing: Kurt/Puck
Rating: PG
Summary: The more things change, the more your family stays the same. Dinner with the Puckermans. 2415 words.
A/N: This is the companion piece to [personal profile] cinderlily's a secret that we keep, wherein we get to find out what Puck's thinking. Part of the down is where we came from universe. The entire series can be found here.

I exercised some restraint for once in my life and held off on posting this until Liz approved it. She said I was allowed to give it a cheesy title, so I did.
carolinecrane: (glee: partners in crime)
So I wrote this other thing, mostly in the last half hour of my workday, when I was holding down the fort in the Periodicals Room. And I wasn't even going to post about it, because it's just embarrassing at this point, but whatever. It's there, if you want to read it.

Title: Simple Gifts
Fandom: Glee
Pairing: Kurt/Puck
Rating: PG
Summary: There are some things you just have to do alone. 1391 words.
A/N: Still part of the series.

( The clinic's one of those walk-in deals, no appointment required. )
carolinecrane: (misc: jennifer's body (is lovely))
Oh, would you look at me, already forgetting to crosspost all over the place. SHOCKING, I KNOW.

Well, no one actually missed anything except some existential angst and poorly received Glee fic, so no loss. Oh, speaking of which, in case you did miss the whining over at LJ, there's this Glee Futurefic universe that Liz and I are writing, all of which we keep here at AO3 in a collection called down is where we came from. So the other day I decided that the Finn spin-off portion should have its own subcollection, aptly titled 99 Problems. Because I cannot get enough LOLarious Jay-Z references in my life, clearly.

Just, you know, FYI. I mention it mostly for Liz' sake, in case she ever decides to write any Finn fic in that universe, since the stories still show up on the main collection page so it's not like anyone needs the link to the subcollection. Unless they are only interested in Finn being a clueless dork and not interested in reading about Kurt and Puck's epic, bedazzled love and if that were the case I would say I don't want to be your friend anymore, but it would get quiet around here awful quick if I did, so I won't.

Um. I watched Criminal Minds last night on a whim, even though I skipped most of last season due to going to bed at a decent hour and not wandering around sleep-deprived all the time. It's nice to see that Reid and Morgan are still quietly in love. And that is all I am going to say about it.

I should have gone to bed directly after watching, but of course I did not. Instead I broke my promise to myself (because my brain hates me and will not let me rest) and wrote 1500 words of Finn fic, which I will probably finish and post sometime today, and then this morning I started another Glee fic which is not even related to the down is where we came from verse. It's canon compliant(-ish), you guys. IDEK. My brain really does hate me.

Last day of the work week! Last chance to get any writing done until Saturday night. Guess I better get busy.

ETA: More Glee fic. Finn-centric, gen*, 2671 words. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I AM LEFT TO MY OWN DEVICES, YOU GUYS.

* If by 'gen' you mean Will being clueless and Finn being in denial.
